Travel - Kenya, Africa

2011

This trip roused me alive in a way I’d never been alive before. In 2011, I joined a photography journey through Kenya—an experience that unfolded with a kind of wild grace I could never have planned.

From the red dust of the Samburu desert, where elephants moved through the golden morning light, to the hippo-filled waters of Lake Naivasha and the vast openness of the Maasai Mara, every moment pulsed with life and new discovery. The hot-air balloon ride at dawn, the wild herds, the deep humanity of the Maasai people—each experience stripped away the familiar and opened me to something raw and essential.

We visited the slums of Kibera in Nairobi, witnessing the strength and spirit of its people, and later walked freely among wildebeest, giraffes, and pelicans on Crescent Island, surrounded by quiet and endless blue sky. I embarked on this journey not knowing what I was stepping into and left with my senses cracked wide open. Kenya found its way into my heart and soul—the raw beauty, the humanity, the rhythm of the land itself. These photographs are my attempt to hold onto that feeling of presence, wonder, and the pulse of life itself.
